General Procedures: Fill
- Fill the power steering reservoir to the appropriate level.
- Use MERCON Multi-Purpose Automatic Transmission Fluid, XT-2-QDX or equivalent MERCON approved fluid.
- Remove the ignition coil fuse number 12 in the fuse junction panel to disable the engine from starting.
- Raise the front wheels off the floor.
- Turn the steering wheel from stop to stop while cranking the engine.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Fill the power steering fluid reservoir to the appropriate level.
- Use MERCON Multi-Purpose Automatic Transmission Fluid, XT-2-QDX or equivalent MERCON approved fluid.
- Install the ignition coil fuse number 12 in the fuse junction panel.
- Clear the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs); refer to CLEARING CODES2
.
- Run the vehicle and check the system for leaks.
CAUTION:
Do not operate the starter motor for more than 10 seconds at a time. Damage to the starter motor could result.
CAUTION:
Do not overfill the power steering fluid reservoir.
NOTE:
If the power steering is noisy and accompanied by evidence of aerated fluid it will be necessary to purge the power steering system; refer to PURGING .
