SYMPTOM

Condition Possible Sources Action
  • Shift interlock system does not release/lock correctly
  • Clutch pedal position (CPP) switch connector jumper missing or incorrectly installed.
  • Circuit(s).
  • Fuse(s).
  • Shift lock actuator.
  • Brake pedal position (BPP) switch.
  • Shift control is out of correct gear relationship
  • Transmission shift cable and bracket.
  • Retainer bracket.
  • Shift control linkage.
  • Transmission range indicator does not correspond to the gear
  • Transmission shift cable bracket.
  • TIGHTEN bolts holding transmission shift cable bracket.
  • Transmission control indicator linkage.
  • ADJUST PRNDL at the steering housing.
  • Transmission shift cable loose from the transmission retainer bracket.
  • REINSTALL transmission shift cable into bracket. INSTALL a new cable if damaged.
  • Shift linkage.
  • Transmission shift cable loose from the column bracket.
  • Column shift cable bracket.
  • Clip securing the transmission shift cable to the shift control selector lever.
  • INSTALL the clip correctly.
  • Internal transmission damage.
  • Transmission range indicator lamp does not illuminate
  • Bulb.
  • Circuit(s).
  • Transmission control switch (TCS) is not operating correctly
  • Blown fuse.
  • Damaged TCS or TCS not cycled during self test.
  • Damaged powertrain control module.
  • Internal transmission concerns.
  • Circuity open/shorted.
  • Transmission control indicator lamp (TCIL) does not illuminate
  • Burned out bulb.
  • Circuitry open/shorted.
  • Damaged powertrain control module.
  • Transmission control indicator lamp (TCIL) stays illuminated or flashes

  • Selector lever knob.
  • INSTALL a new selector lever knob.
  • Shift control selector lever.
  • TIGHTEN housing bolts.
  • Shift interlock spring.
  • ATTACH shift interlock spring correctly.
  • Water enters inside the vehicle
  • Cable assembly grommet.
  • SECURE grommet to dash panel.
  • Torn cable assembly grommet.
  • INSTALL a new transmission shift cable.
  • Excessive shift effort
  • Transmission shift cable.
  • INSTALL a new transmission shift cable.
  • Cable bracket.
  • ADJUST cable. TIGHTEN cable bracket screws.
  • Transmission range selector lever will not shift
  • Transmission shift cable.
  • REINSTALL transmission shift cable.
  • Lock tab.
  • REPAIR/INSTALL a new lock tab.
  • Broken transmission shift cable.
