Pinpoint Test G: The Restraint Control Module (RCM) Does Not Respond To The Diagnostic Tool: Testing

- G1 CHECK THE RCM C310b FOR DAMAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Depower the air bag system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
- Disconnect: RCM C310b.
- Is the RCM C310b OK?
- Yes : GO to G2.
- No : REPAIR the RCM C310b as necessary. CONNECT the RCM C310b. REPOWER the air bag system. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM . CARRY OUT the PINPOINT TEST PC: DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS TEST .
- G2 CHECK HIGH SPEED CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) CIRCUITS 1908 (WH) AND 1909 (BK) BETWEEN THE DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC) C251 AND THE RCM C310b FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between the RCM C310b-31, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side and the DLC C251-6, circuit 1908 (WH), harness side; and between the RCM C310b-32, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side and the DLC C251-14, circuit 1909 (BK), harness side.
- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to G3.
- No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CONNECT the RCM C310b. REPOWER the air bag system. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM . CLEAR the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the PINPOINT TEST PC: DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS TEST .
- G3 CHECK FOR CORRECT RCM OPERATION
- Depower the air bag system. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
- Disconnect all the RCM connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the RCM module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new RCM and REPOWER the air bag system. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the PINPOINT TEST PC: DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS TEST .
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the PINPOINT TEST PC: DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS TEST .
