Pinpoint Test J: The Roll Stability Control (RSC)/Traction Control System Cannot Be Disabled

CAUTION: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multi-meter probes.
  1. J1 CHECK THE STABILITY/TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH PID
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: DataLogger/ABS Module PID: Traction Control Switch Status (TCYC_SW)
    • NOTE: Press and hold the switch for at least one second.
    • Monitor the TCYC_SW PID while pressing and releasing the stability/traction control switch.
    • Does the switch position match the PID?
    1. YES  : REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article to diagnose the HS-CAN bus. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  J2.
  2. J2 CHECK CIRCUIT CCA15 (YE/GY) FOR AN OPEN
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Stability/Traction Control Switch C2361
    • Disconnect: ABS Module C135
    • Fig 1: Checking Circuit For Open

    • Measure the resistance between ABS module C135-4, circuit CCA15 (YE/GY), harness side and stability/traction control switch C2361-2, circuit CCA15 (YE/GY), harness side.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    1. YES  : Go to  J3.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit CCA15 (YE/GY). TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. J3 CHECK CIRCUIT GD138 (BK/WH) FOR AN OPEN
Fig 2: Checking Circuit For Open
      GF0022469Courtesy of FORD MOTOR CO.
    • Measure the resistance between stability/traction control switch C2361-4, circuit GD138 (BK/WH), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    1. YES  : Go to  J4.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit GD138 (BK/WH). TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. J4 CHECK THE STABILITY ASSIST SWITCH FOR AN OPEN
    • Measure the resistance between stability/traction control switch C2361 pin 2 and pin 4, component side while pressing and releasing the switch.
    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms with the switch released and less than 5 ohms with the switch pressed?
    1. YES  : Go to  J5.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new stability assist switch, REFER to Stability/Traction Control Switch - Expedition  or Stability/Traction Control Switch - Navigator . TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. J5 CHECK THE ABS MODULE CONNECTORS
    • Check ABS module C135 for:
      • corrosion.
      • pushed-out pins.
      • spread terminals.
    • Connect: ABS Module C135
    • Make sure the connector seats correctly, then operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present?
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
