Pinpoint Test G: The Stability/Traction Control System Is Inoperative
NOTE:
Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multi-meter probes.
- G1 VERIFY THAT THE SYSTEM CAN BE ENABLED/DISABLED BY THE STABILITY/TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH
- Test drive the vehicle, press the stability/traction control switch and verify that the system can be enabled/disabled by the switch.
- Can the system be enabled/disabled by the switch?
- Yes : EXPLAIN correct system operation to the customer.
- No : GO to G2.
- G2 CHECK FOR ABS MODULE, PCM AND IPC DTCs
- Connect the scan tool.
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self Test - All CMDTCs.
- Are any DTCs present in the PCM, IPC or ABS module?
- Yes
: For PCM DTCs, REFER to
INTRODUCTION - GASOLINE MODELS
.
For IPC DTCs, REFER to the DTC Chart in INSTRUMENTATION, MESSAGE CENTER, AND WARNING CHIMES .
For ABS module DTCs, GO to the ABS Module DTC Chart .
- No : GO to G3.
- Yes
: For PCM DTCs, REFER to
INTRODUCTION - GASOLINE MODELS
.
- G3 VERIFY THE ABS MODULE CONFIGURATION
- Configure the ABS module. Refer to Programmable Module Installation (PMI) in MODULE CONFIGURATION .
- Test drive the vehicle and verify that the traction control system operates correctly.
- Does the system operate correctly?
- Yes : The concern was due to improper or incomplete ABS module configuration.
- No : GO to G4.
- G4 CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: FCIMC2403.
- Disconnect: IPCC220.
- Measure the resistance between IPCC220-18, circuit CCA15 (YE/GY), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
- Yes : GO to G5.
- No : REPAIR circuit CCA15 (YE/GY). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- G5 CHECK FOR CORRECT FCIM OPERATION
- Disconnect: FCIMC2403.
- Check for:
- corrosion.
- pushed-out pins.
- spread terminals.
- Connect the FCIM connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new FCIM. REFER to INFORMATION AND ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
