Possible Causes

  1. AF1: VERIFY DRIVING CONDITIONS WHEN TRACTION CONTROL WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED 
    • Ask the customer if the vehicle was towing something such as a camper, a trailer, or another vehicle when the traction control warning indicator illuminated.
    • Was the vehicle towing something such as a camper, a trailer, or another vehicle when the traction control warning indicator illuminated? 
      Yes No
      Go to  AF2. Go to  AF3.
  2. AF2: VERIFY TOWING EQUIPMENT INSTALLED CORRECTLY 
    • Review towing equipment (load leveling bars, hitch, etc.) with customer, verify equipment is installed correctly, lubricated as required, etc.
    • Verify towing electrical connections are seated and latched correctly.
    • Once equipment is adjusted and verified to be in good working order:
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.
    • Clear the ABS DTCs.
    • Drive the vehicle, attempt to replicate the customers driving conditions.
    • Carry out the ABS self-test.
    • Is DTC C0051: xx or C006B:xx present in the ABS module? 
      Yes No
      Go to  AF3. The towing equipment adjustments have resolved the ABS DTC or symptom and the repair is complete.
  3. AF3: VERIFY OTHER DRIVING CONDITIONS 
    • Ask the customer is the vehicle was driving in heavy cross-winds, on gravel roads, or other non-standard road conditions.
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.
    • Clear the ABS DTCs.
    • Drive the vehicle, attempt to replicate the customers driving conditions.
    • Carry out the ABS self-test.
    • Is DTC C0051: xx or C006B:xx present in the ABS module? 
      Yes No
      Go to  AF4. The system is operating correctly at this time and the repair is complete.
  4. AF4: VERIFY STEERING WHEEL IS CENTERED AND ALIGNMENT IS CORRECT 
    • Verify the steering wheel is centered and the alignment is correctly set.
    • Is the steering wheel centered and the alignment correctly set? 
      Yes No
      Go to  AF5. ADJUST the front toe, REFER to SUSPENSION SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION .
      Go to  AF5.
  5. AF5: CHECK THE STEERING GEAR ATTACHMENT POINTS 
    • Verify the steering gear is properly attached to the frame or subframe. Refer to Steering Gear Removal and Installation in POWER STEERING SYSTEM .
    • Verify the steering gear-to-steering shaft joint is correctly installed. Refer to Steering Gear Removal and Installation in POWER STEERING SYSTEM .
    • Are the steering gear attachments properly installed? 
      Yes No
      Go to  AF6. REINSTALL or RECONNECT the steering gear attachment points. REFER to POWER STEERING SYSTEM .
      Go to  AF6.
  6. AF6: RECHECK THE ABS MODULE FOR DTC C0051: XX 
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.
    • Clear the ABS DTCs.
    • Drive the vehicle, attempt to replicate the customers driving conditions.
    • Carry out the ABS self-test.
    • Is DTC C0051: xx or C006B:xx present in the ABS module? 
      Yes No
      GO to PINPOINT TEST AG . The vehicle is operating correctly at this time. The repairs and adjustments made in this pinpoint test resolved the issue.
