Cooling Module: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Ford F-350 Super Duty and 2019 Ford F-250 Super Duty. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding  .
  2. Evacuate the A/C system. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging .
  3. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
  4. Remove the headlamp assemblies. Refer to: Headlamp Assembly .
    1. All Vehicles. Disconnect the horn electrical connector.
    2. Vehicles Equipped With Hood Ajar Switch. Disconnect the electrical connector.
    3. Vehicles Not Equipped With Hood Ajar Switch. Detach the wiring harness retainer.
    4. Vehicles With Park Aid Camera. Detach the wiring harness retainers.

  5. Detach the pin-type retainer, release the clips and position the washer fluid hose aside.

  6. Remove the bolts, push-pins and the radiator grille bracket.

    Torque: Stage 1: 62 lb.in (7 Nm) | Stage 2: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)

    • Mark the hood latch.

    • Remove the bolts, detach the retainer and position the hood latch aside.

      Torque: 26 lb.ft (35 Nm)

    1. Detach the cable from the mounting bracket.
    2. Disconnect the hood latch release cable end.

  7. Detach the pin type retainers from the front end bolster and position the wiring harness aside.

  8. Remove the push-pins and the LH air deflector.

  9. Remove the condenser inlet, outlet nuts and disconnect the fittings.

    Torque: 133 lb.in (15 Nm)

  10. Remove the transmission cooler tube secondary latches and detach the clip.

  11. NOTE: Failure to cap the openings for the transmission cooler tubes may result in siphoning of the transmission fluid. This may result in damage to the transmission, if the transmission fluid is not checked and filled after the repair is completed.
    NOTE: Install caps on the transmission cooler tubes.

    Using the special tool, disconnect the transmission fluid cooler tubes. Use Special Service Tool: 307-569 Disconnect Tool TOC Line (1/2). Use the General Equipment: Fluid Container

    • Detach the power steering cooler hose retainers from the radiator.

    • Remove the bolts and position the power steering cooler aside.

      Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

  12. Remove the bolt and position the power steering fluid reservoir aside.

    Torque: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

  13. Detach the wiring harness retainer from the cooling fan shroud.

    1. Release the clamp and disconnect coolant hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
    2. Pull the upper radiator hose spring clip until the end of the clip is in the detent on the quick connect coupling and disconnect the upper radiator hose.

  15. Pull the lower radiator hose spring clip until the end of the clip is in the detent on the quick connect coupling and disconnect the lower radiator hose.

  16. Disconnect the electrical connector.

  17. Release the retainers and remove the air cleaner upper intake duct.

  18. With the help of an assistant remove the bolts and the cooling module.

    Torque: 26 lb.ft (35 Nm)
