Brake Rotor/Disc: Service and Repair


Brake Pads, Replace

1. Raise and support front of vehicle.
2. Remove front wheel.
3. Using a suitable screwdriver remove brake hose clip and disconnect brake hose from shock absorber.
4. Remove caliper return spring.
5. Remove slide pin from caliper, and secure caliper with a piece of wire.
6. Remove brake pad, shim and spring.
7. Check the brake pads for wear and replace brake pad if wear is excessive.
8. Reverse procedure to install. Note the following:
a. Using a suitable grease, lubricate contact surface between pad mounting support and caliper assembly.
b. Lubricate both surfaces of the outer and inner shims.
c. Position brake hose into the shock absorber groove and lock with clip.
d. Lubricate slide pin and bushing.
e. Bleed the brakes. Pump the brake pedal two or three times and check brake efficiency.

Caliper, Replace

1. Raise and support front of vehicle.
2. Remove front wheel and disconnect brake hose from caliper.
3. Remove return spring (3), Fig. 3, slide pin (4), caliper assembly (5) and shim (6).
4. Reverse procedure to install.

Caliper Overhaul

1. Disassemble in order shown in Fig. 4.
2. Remove piston from caliper, by wrapping the outer side of caliper with a shop cloth and blowing compressed air a little at a time, through the brake hose connecting hole.
