Oxygen (O2) Sensor Check With System Checker 83
This procedure determines if the Oxygen (O2) sensor signal is fed to the control unit correctly.
- Start engine and let it idle. Disconnect throttle sensor connector. See Fig 1 . The Red lamp, buzzer and Green lamp should indicate as in Fig 2 .
- Increase engine speed to 2000 RPM. Make sure the Green light illuminates within 10 seconds after increasing the engine speed to 2000 RPM. The Red lamp, buzzer and Green lamp should indicate as in Fig 3 .
- While holding engine speed at 2000 RPM, disconnect the Oxygen (O2) sensor connector. The Red lamp, buzzer and Green lamp should indicate as in Fig 4 .
- Use the OXYGEN SENSOR TEST table to determine the problem.
OXYGEN SENSOR TEST
| Green Lamp Indicates: | Air Fuel Ratio Is: |
|---|---|
| Lamp Turns On | Richer than Stoichiometric air/fuel ratio |
| Lamp Turns On & Off | O2 sensor signal is fed to the control unit |
| Lamp Turns Off | Leaner than Stoichiometric air/fuel ratio |
