Ignition Timing: Adjustments

CHECKING INITIAL TIMING
1. Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.
2. Turn all electric loads OFF.
3. Check that idle speed is at specification.
4. Ground test connector ( Green; 1 pin) Fig. 2.
5. Connect a timing light to No. 1 cylinder high tension lead.
6. Check the ignition timing.

IGNITION TIMING: 14°- 16° BTDC.

7. If the ignition timing is not correct, loosen the distributor lock bolt and rotate the distributor to adjust.
8. Tighten the lock bolt.

CHECKING ADVANCE
With a timing light, check that the ignition timing advances with an increase of engine speed Fig. 3.
