Diagnostic Aids

Continuous Memory Code 15/512 may be displayed when power to Keep-Alive Memory (KAM) test pin No. 1 at ECA is interrupted. This code may be set when connecting breakout box and may be displayed first time self-test is performed and power is restored to ECA. Repeat self-test to ensure correct diagnosis. Perform this test when directed by QUICK TEST. This test is only intended to diagnose following components or systems.

TEST PIN WIRE COLOR IDENTIFICATION

CAUTION: Before disconnecting ECA connector, turn ignition off and wait at least 10 seconds. Before running QUICK TEST, reconnect all components.

NOTE: Unless specified otherwise, disconnect breakout box and reconnect all components after repairs.

1) Check KAPWR To ECA - Disconnect ECA 60-pin connector, and inspect it for damaged pins and loose wires. Service as necessary. Connect breakout box, leaving ECA disconnected. Turn ignition on (engine off). Set DVOM on 20-volt scale. Check voltage between breakout box test pin No. 1 and test pins No. 40 and 60 while wiggling, bending and shaking small sections of EEC harness between ECA and firewall. If reading is less than 10.5 volts, repair open circuit. Rerun QUICK TEST . If reading is 10.5 volts or more, reconnect ECA and go to next step.

2) Inspect Engine Compartment Wire Routing - Ensure EEC-IV components and wiring are not close to high-voltage secondary wires and ignition components. Reroute wiring as necessary. Clear codes. Wait 5 minutes. Run KOEO SELF-TEST. If Code 15/512 is not set, Continuous Memory Code 15/512 testing is complete. Service other codes as necessary. If Code 15/512 is set, replace ECA. Rerun QUICK TEST .
