Ignition Timing

PREPARATION

Diagnostic Connector:






1. Warm engine to operating temperature.
2. Turn all accessories OFF.
3. Connect SST to data link connector.
4. Connect timing light.
5. Connect tachometer to data link connector terminal IG-.
6. Set switch A to position 1. Set TEST SW to SELF-TEST.

NOTE: If SST is not used, jump across TEN and GND terminals of data link connector.


ADJUSTMENT

Timing Marks:






1. Perform preparation.
2. Check if timing mark (yellow) on crank pulley and mark on timing belt cover are aligned.

11° - 13° BTDC

3. If marks are not aligned, loosen lock bolt and turn distributor to make adjustment.

Adjusting Timing:






4. Following adjustment, tighten distributor lock bolt to 14 - 19 ft lb (19 - 25 Nm).
5. Disconnect SST or jumper wire from data link connector. Check that timing is between 7° - 20° BTDC.
