Distributor: Service and Repair

Distributor Replacement:

REMOVAL

1. Remove high tension leads from distributor cap.
2. Remove distributor cap.
3. Disconnect wiring harness.
4. Turn crankshaft to #1 cylinder TDC and note rotor position.
5. Remove mounting bolt and lift off distributor. Do not turn engine while distributor is removed.

INSTALLATION

1. Use new O-rings and coat with engine oil. Coat end of coupling shaft with grease.
2. Ensure that #1 cylinder is at TDC.
3. Install distributor with rotor pointing in the same direction as it was during removal.
4. After installation, adjust ignition timing (see Adjustments).
5. Tighten mounting bolt to 14 - 18 ft lb (19 - 25 Nm).
