Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair


REPLACEMENT
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise the vehicle on a hoist and position safety stands under the vehicle.
3. Disconnect the selector cable.
4. Disconnect the Park/neutral Position Switch connector.
5. Remove the switch and O-ring.

CAUTION: Use a short 19mm open-end wrench to remove the Park/neutral Position Switch.

6. Install a new Park/neutral Position Switch and O-ring.

Tightening torque: 10-14 Nm (89-124 in.lb.)

7. Connect the Park/neutral Position Switch connector.
8. Connect the selector cable.
9. Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle.
10. Connect the negative battery cable.
11. Check for proper operation with the parking brake engaged. The engine should start only with the transmission selector lever in the P or N positions. The back-up lights should illuminate only with the selector lever in the R position.
