Ignition Timing: Adjustments


PREPARATION
1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
2. Turn all electrical loads off.
- Head Lamp switch
- Blower switch
- Climate control panel switch

NOTE: If the climate control panel is in DEFROSTER mode, the A/C compressor will be on.

3. Place the transmission into Neutral (MT) or Park (AT).

IGNITION TIMING
1. Connect a timing light to the engine.
2. Verify that the idle speed is within specification.

Spark Output (SPOUT) Connector:





3. Disconnect the shorting bar from the Spark Output (SPOUT) connector.
4. Verify that the ignition timing is within specification.

Specification: BTDC 8-12° (10° +/- 2°)

5. If the ignition timing is not within specification, loosen the distributor lock bolt and turn the distributor to make the adjustment.
6. Tighten the distributor bolt to the specified torque.

Tightening torque: 19-28 Nm (14-20 ft.lb.)

7. Verify that the ignition timing is within specification.

Specification: BTDC 8-12° (10° +/- 2°)

8. Connect the shorting bar into the SPOUT connector.
9. Remove all test equipment.
