VEHICLES AFFECTED

All 1996-97 626/MX-6 vehicles with FS engine and automatic transmission.

DESCRIPTION

The MIL may illuminate while driving with DTC P0421 stored in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) memory. This may be caused by the PCMs sensitivity and can be affected by degraded performance of the front 3-way catalytic converter. A modified PCM calibration is available to reduce this concern. Customers complaining of this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Using the flowcharts in Fig 1 and Fig 2, reprogram the PCM and monitor the 02 sensor fluctuation to determine the condition of the front catalytic converter.
