Diagnosis & Testing: Notes

NOTE: Control modules used on vehicles with traction control are known as ABS/TCS control modules. Unless testing procedure is for models with traction control only, control modules will be referred to as ABS control modules.

On 1995 models, ABS warning light can be used to retrieve ABS Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) that are in ABS control module memory. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  . On 1995 models with a fault that is currently present (ABS warning light is on) and all 1996 models, ABS DTCs are retrieved by using New Generation Star (NGS) Tool (49-T088-0A0) and NGS Self-Test Adapter (49-T088-003). See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  . On all models, test ABS control module using DVOM. See ABS CONTROL MODULE TEST  under COMPONENT TESTING.

If ABS test equipment is unavailable, test each component of ABS. See test procedures under COMPONENT TESTING  . If all ABS components test okay, replace ABS control module with a known-good module and retest system.
