Generic Electronic Module (Gem)

The Generic Electronic Module (GEM), Remote Anti-Theft Personality (RAP) module and Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module and air bag diagnostic monitor are connected to the ISO 9141 diagnostic communications network through a single wire. ISO 9141 diagnostic communications network is connected to the Data Link Connector (DLC).

In the event that a system failure exists, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be stored in the GEM. A New Generation Star (NGS) scan tool connected to Data Link Connector (DLC) may be used for retieving and clearing DTCs from GEM. DTC may be used for system diagnosis.
