Equipment Hookup

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Mazda B4000, 1999 Mazda B3000, and 1999 Mazda B2500. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ensure ignition is off. Select proper program card for New Generation Star (NGS) Tester (49-T088-0A0) for vehicle application. With NGS tester facing away from you, insert program card into tester. Ensure program card is properly inserted into NGS tester or tester will not operate.
  2. Connect NGS tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below driver's side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Connect NGS tester power cable to battery source or cigarette lighter.
  3. Turn ignition switch to ON position. NGS tester automatically performs an initialization test. Initialization test checks the tester memory and verifies that vehicle interface module matches program card for tester. If an error message is displayed on NGS tester, refer to tester operator's manual for system messages. If a module or all modules do not communicate, perform appropriate test.   4. The menu item VEHICLE AND ENGINE SELECTION should be highlighted on scan tool. Press trigger to select VEHICLE AND ENGINE SELECTION.
  5. Rotate dial on NGS tester to menu item SELECT NEW VEHICLE MODEL AND YEAR, and press trigger to select. Select model year, vehicle and engine size by rotating dial to highlight the selection, and press trigger to select. If selected vehicle is not displayed, repeat this step.
