Engine Coolant Temperature Compensation Inspection

  1. Connect WDS or equivalent to the DLC-2.
  2. Select ECT, IAT, RPM PIDs.
  3. Verify engine is cold, then start engine.
  4. Verify engine speed decreases as engine warms up. If engine speed does not decrease or decreases slowly, inspect following:
    • ECT sensor and related harness. Refer to ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR under ENGINE SENSORS & SWITCHES in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - MAZDA6, MIATA, MPV, PROTEGE & PROTEGE5 article.
    • Electronic throttle body and related harness. Refer to THROTTLE ACTUATOR under IDLE CONTROL in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - MAZDA6, MIATA, MPV, PROTEGE & PROTEGE5 article.
