DTC 1: SAS Control Module Connector Poor Connection

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait more than one minute to allow back-up power supply to deplete. Access and check SAS control module harness connectors for improper connection. See SAS CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If connectors are okay, go to next step. If connectors are not properly connected, reconnect connectors as necessary.
  2. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Disconnect SAS control module connectors. Check all short bars in SAS control module connectors. See Figure & Figure . If short bars are okay, go to next step. If short bars are damaged or bent, replace air bag wiring harness. Go to step  5.
  3. If vehicle is equipped with side air bags, and DTC1 was retrieved as a present malfunction DTC, replace SAS control module. See SAS CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If vehicle is equipped with side air bags, and DTC1 was retrieved as a past malfunction DTC, test is complete. Go to step  5. If vehicle is not equipped with side air bags, go to next step.
  4. Check air bag wiring harness between ground and SAS connector terminal 2AA (Gray wire) for short to power or open circuit. If wiring harness is okay, and DTC 1 was retrieved as a present malfunction DTC, replace SAS control module. If wiring harness is okay, and DTC 1 was retrieved as a past malfunction DTC, test is complete. Go to step  5. If wiring harness is not okay, replace air bag system wiring harness. Go to step  5.
  5. Disconnect negative battery cable. Reconnect all connectors and install previously removed components. Reconnect negative battery cable. Clear past malfunction DTCs. See CLEARING PAST MALFUNCTION DTCS  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If AIR BAG warning light operates normally, trouble shooting is complete. If AIR BAG warning light does not operate normally, reconfirm malfunction symptoms.
