Transmission Range Sensor/Switch: Protege

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove battery, air cleaner assembly and battery tray. Remove splash shield. Remove clip and disconnect selector cable. Rotate manual shaft toward converter housing side fully, then rotate 2 notches to place shaft in "N" position. Disconnect Transaxle Range (TR) switch connector. Loosen TR switch mounting bolts.
  2. Using a DVOM, check for continuity between TR switch terminals "A" and "H". See Fig 1. Slowly rotate TR switch until continuity exists. Tighten TR switch mounting bolts to 70-96 INCH lbs. (8-11 N.m). Ensure TR switch and gearshift lever position are aligned. Connect TR switch connector, and selector cable. Install splash shield, air cleaner assembly, battery tray and battery. Connect negative battery cable.
