Symptom Diagnosis: Notes
CAUTION:

Symptom checks cannot be used properly unless problem occurs while vehicle is being tested. To reduce diagnostic time, ensure steps in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article and appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article were performed before diagnosing a symptom. Following symptoms are available for diagnosis:
- A/C ALWAYS ON OR COMPRESSOR RUNS CONTINUOUSLY
- A/C DOES NOT TURN OFF DURING WIDE OPEN THROTTLE (WOT)
- A/C DOES NOT WORK SUFFICIENTLY
- COOLING SYSTEM CONCERNS - OVERHEATING
- COOLING SYSTEM CONCERNS - RUNS COLD
- CRANKS NORMALLY BUT WILL NOT START
- ENGINE NOISE
- ENGINE STALLS, QUITS, RUNS ROUGH, MISSES, BUCKS, JERKS, HESITATES, STUMBLES OR SURGES DURING ACCELERATION OR CRUISE
- ENGINE RUNS ROUGH OR ROLLING IDLE
- ENGINE STALLS AT IDLE OR JUST AFTER STARTING
- ENGINE VIBRATION
- EXHAUST SMOKE
- EXHAUST SULPHUR (ROTTEN EGG) SMELL
- FAILS EMISSIONS TEST
- FAST IDLE OR RUN ON
- FUEL DOES NOT SHUT OFF PROPERLY
- FUEL ODOR IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT
- HARD TO START, LONG CRANK, ERRATIC CRANK OR ERRATIC START
- KNOCKING OR PINGING DURING ACCELERATION OR CRUISE
- LACK OR LOSS OF POWER DURING ACCELERATION OR CRUISE
- LOW IDLE OR STALLS DURING DECELERATION
- MIL ILLUMINATED INCORRECTLY
- OIL CONSUMPTION EXCESSIVE
- POOR FUEL ECONOMY
- SLOW RETURN TO IDLE
- SPARK PLUG CONDITION
- WILL NOT CRANK
