Cooling System Pinpoint Test 3: Engine Does Not Reach Normal Operating Temperature

PINPOINT TEST 3 - ENGINE DOES NOT REACH NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE

PINPOINT TEST 3 ENGINE DOES NOT REACH NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE
  • Start the engine and allow the engine to idle for ten minutes.
  • Key OFF.
  • Feel the inlet and heater hoses and the underside of the upper radiator hose.
  • Are the upper radiator hose and the heater hoses cold? 
Yes Replace the thermostat.
See WATER PUMP REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 2.3L for the 2.3L engine.

See WATER PUMP REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L for the 3.0L engine.

See WATER PUMP REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 4.0L for the 4.0L engine.


Test the system for normal operation.
No See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PINPOINT TEST 2: INCORRECT TEMPERATURE GAUGE INDICATION for diagnosis and testing of the engine coolant temperature gauge.
