Power Window Inoperative - Driver Power Window

SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART - DRIVER POWER WINDOW

PINPOINT TEST 2 POWER WINDOW IS INOPERATIVE - DRIVER POWER WINDOW
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 VERIFY POWER WINDOW OPERATION
  • Operate all the power windows from the driver and passenger power window switches.
  • Do the windows operate correctly? 
Yes System is operating properly at this time. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
No If all windows are inoperative, See POWER WINDOWS INOPERATIVE (ALL) .
If only the passenger power window is inoperative, See POWER WINDOW INOPERATIVE - PASSENGER POWER WINDOW .
If only the one-touch down feature is inoperative, Go to step 2.
If only the driver window is inoperative, Go to step 3.
2 CHECK THE ONE-TOUCH DOWN RELAY
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect the one-touch down relay from relay box connector.
  • Check the one-touch down relay.

    See ONE TOUCH DOWN RELAY INSPECTION .

  • Is the one-touch down relay OK? 
Yes Go to step 15.
No Install a new one-touch down relay. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
3 CHECK W/B CIRCUIT FOR POWER AT DRIVER POWER WINDOW MOTOR
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect driver power window motor connector 0912-204.
  • Key ON.
  • Measure the voltage between driver power window motor 0912-204 pin 1 circuit W/B, with the power window main switch in the UP position, and with the switch in the OFF position.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts with the power window main switch UP, and 0 volts with the switch OFF? 
Yes Go to step 4.
No If voltage is always present, Go to step 5. If no voltage is present, Go to step 10.
4 CHECK R CIRCUIT FOR POWER AT DRIVER POWER WINDOW MOTOR
  • Measure the voltage between driver power window motor 0912-204 pin 2 circuit R, with the power window main switch in the DOWN position, and with the switch in the OFF position.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts with the power window main switch DOWN, and 0 volts with the switch OFF? 
Yes Replace the left power window motor. See POWER WINDOW MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
No If voltage is always present, Go to step 6. If no voltage is present, Go to step 11.
5 CHECK W/B CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO POWER
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect driver power window switch connector 0912-201.
  • Key ON.
  • Measure the voltage between driver power window motor 0912-204 pin 1 circuit W/B, harness side and ground.
  • Is any voltage present? 
Yes Repair W/B wire. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
No Replace the power window main switch. See POWER WINDOW MAIN SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
6 CHECK T/LB CIRCUIT FOR POWER AT SJB
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect SJB connector J-2280c.
  • Key ON.
  • Measure the voltage between SJB connector J-2280c pin 13 circuit R, harness side and ground.
  • Is any voltage present? 
Yes Repair T/LB wire. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
No Go to step 7.
7 CHECK T/LB CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE AT SJB
  • Measure the voltage between SJB connector J-2280c pin 29 circuit T/LB, harness side and ground.
  • Is any voltage present? 
Yes Go to step 8.
No Go to step 9.
8 CHECK T/LB FOR SHORT TO POWER
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect driver power window switch connector 0912-201.
  • Key ON.
  • Measure the voltage between driver power window switch 0912-201 pin 4 circuit T/LB, harness side and ground.
  • Is any voltage present? 
Yes Repair T/LB wire. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
No Replace the power window main switch. See POWER WINDOW MAIN SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
9 CHECK ONE-TOUCH DOWN RELAY FOR SHORT
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect the one-touch down relay from relay box connector.
  • Check the one-touch down relay. See ONE TOUCH DOWN RELAY INSPECTION .
  • Is the one-touch down relay OK? 
Yes Go to step 15.
No Replace the one-touch down relay. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
10 CHECK W/B CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect driver power window switch connector 0912-201.
  • Measure the resistance between driver power window switch connector 0912-201 pin 1 circuit W/B, harness side and driver power window motor 0912-204 pin 1 circuit W/B, harness side.
  • Measure the resistance between driver power window switch connector 0912-201 pin 1 circuit W/B, harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between connectors, and greater than 10K ohms to ground? 
Yes Replace the power window main switch. See POWER WINDOW MAIN SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
No Repair W/B wire. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
11 CHECK POWER WINDOW MAIN SWITCH
NOTE:
  • The driver window must be in the UP position before performing this step.
  • Key OFF.
  • Connect any disconnected connectors.
  • Disconnect driver power window switch connector 0912-201.
  • Insert a 10(A) fused jumper between power window main switch pin 2 circuit LB/B and pin 4 circuit T/LB.
  • Key ON.
  • Does the driver power window move to the DOWN position? 
Yes Replace the power window main switch. See POWER WINDOW MAIN SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
No Go to step 12.
12 CHECK R CIRCUIT TO DRIVER POWER WINDOW MOTOR FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect SJB J-2280c.
  • Measure the resistance between SJB connector J-2280c pin 13 circuit R, harness side and driver power window motor 0912-204 pin 2 circuit R.
  • Measure the resistance between SJB connector J-2280c pin 13 circuit R, harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between connectors, and greater than 10K ohms to ground? 
Yes Go to step 13.
No Repair R wire. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
13 CHECK T/LB CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Measure the resistance between SJB connector J-2280c pin 29 circuit T/LB, harness side and power window main switch pin 4 circuit T/LB.
  • Measure the resistance between SJB connector J-2280c pin 29 circuit T/LB, harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between connectors, and greater than 10K ohms to ground? 
Yes Go to step 14.
No Repair T/LB wire. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
14 CHECK ONE-TOUCH DOWN RELAY FOR AN OPEN
  • Disconnect the one-touch down relay from relay box connector.
  • Check the one-touch down relay. See ONE TOUCH DOWN RELAY INSPECTION .
  • Is the one-touch down relay OK? 
Yes Replace the one-touch down relay. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
No Go to step 15.
15 CHECK SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) FOR CORRECT OPERATION
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Reconnect all the SJB connectors and make sure they are seated correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present? 
Yes Replace the SJB. See SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. Clear the DTCs. Test the system for normal operation.
