    • This function can be operated on M-MDS with laptop PC only. M-MDS with Pocket PC cannot support this function.
    • To use Mazda Generic OBDII Function, you must have VCM DVD 2007.9 (IDS51) or newer installed on your laptop PC for M-MDS.
  3. How to install and use this function
    1. How to install the "Mazda Generic OBD-II" Software First of all, you need to update your M-MDS with "VCM DVD 2007.9(IDS51)" or later version.

After you update IDS software on your M-MDS, now you can install the Generic OBD-II software. Please install the Generic OBD-II software according to the "Mazda Generic OBDII Function Users Guide".

    2. How to use "Mazda Generic OBD-II Function" Please refer to "Mazda Generic OBDII Function Users Guide".
  4. Authorization code

The screen on the right may appear when you use Mazda Generic OBDII Function for the first time. In such case, you need to enter an authorization code that activates this function on M-MDS. To obtain your authorization code, follow the procedures below.

    1. Confirm your VCM's serial number. You can verify it on the M-MDS screen or on the bottom of the VCM.
    2. Boot up the Generic OBD-II function and proceed to the authorization code input screen (The screen appears after clicking the tick of the screen on the right). Please enter the authorization code in the box. Now Mazda Generic OBDII Function can be used.

  5. Hotline support

If you have any question about Mazda Generic OBDII Function, please Hotline Support.

If you encounter communication errors or any other failures when Mazda Generic OBDII Function is used on MY2005 or newer models that meet US OBDII Regulations, please report your problems to MNAO via email or fax. Using the Generic OBDII reporting sheet available on Mazda Service Support System. Your problems will be investigated by Diagnostic Service Planning Group of Mazda Japan, who developed Generic OBDII Function. The diagnostic software may be improved if the problem is caused by the software. However if the problem occurs as a result of the specifications of the vehicle no software updates will be made. Please understand that we may not answer each report individually.

  6. NOTE

Mazda Generic OBDII Function is designed to diagnose MY2005 or newer models that meet US OBDII Regulations, therefore it does not function on other models. For your reference, a list of the models we tested is available on Mazda Service Support System under Training/Mazda-Job Aids.

Some features may not operate correctly on some models, even when it is MY2005 or newer and meets US OBDII Regulations. Because there are still some areas that some automotive manufacturers have design-deviations which prevent Generic OBDII Function from operating properly. This is not failure of Generic OBD function itself.

Make sure the ignition switch is at OFF position when you connect and disconnect M-MDS to vehicle DLC. If you do not so, DTCs may be stored in the ECU.
