Pinpoint Test 3: The Transaxle Control Switch Is Inoperative

TRANSAXLE CONTROL SWITCH INOPERATIVE PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

3 THE TRANSAXLE CONTROL SWITCH IS INOPERATIVE
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE IGNITION CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE
  • Disconnect the Smart Junction Box (SJB) J-2280a.
  • Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
  • Measure the voltage between the SJB J-2280a pin 7 (LG/V), harness side and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes Go to next step.
No VERIFY the SJB fuse 4 (10A) is OK. If OK, see PINPOINT TEST 1: THE IGNITION SWITCH IS INOPERATIVE .
2 CHECK THE SJB GROUND CIRCUIT
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect the SJB J-2280c.
  • Measure the resistance between the SJB J-2280c pin 30 (B), harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
3 CHECK THE FLOOR SHIFTER SWITCHED CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE
  • Connect the SJB J-2280a, J-2280c.
  • Disconnect the Floor Shifter 0518-01.
  • Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
  • Measure the voltage between the floor shifter 0518-01 pin 6 (R/Y), harness side and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes Go to step 5.
No Go to next step.
4 CHECK THE FLOOR SHIFTER SWITCHED CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect the SJB J-2280a.
  • Measure the resistance between the SJB J-2280a pin 24 (R/Y), harness side and the floor shifter 0518-01 pin 6 (R/Y) harness side; and between the SJB J-2280a pin 24 (R/Y), harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the SJB and the floor shifter, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the SJB and ground?
Yes VERIFY the SJB fuse 32 (10A) is OK. If OK, INSTALL a new run start relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
No REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
5 CHECK THE FLOOR SHIFTER SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
  • Measure the voltage between the floor shifter 0518-01 pin 5 (O/Y), harness side and ground.
  • Is any voltage present?
Yes REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
No Go to next step.
6 CHECK THE FLOOR SHIFTER SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Disconnect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) 0140-175b/275b.
  • Measure the voltage between the floor shifter 0518-01 pin 5 (O/Y), harness side and the PCM 0140-175b/275b pin 27 (O/Y), harness side; and between the floor shifter 0518-01 pin 5 (O/Y), harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the floor shifter and the PCM, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the floor shifter and ground?
Yes Go to next step.
No REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
7 CHECK THE FLOOR SHIFTER FOR AN INTERNAL OPEN OR A SHORT CIRCUIT
  • While switching the transmission control switch ON and OFF, measure the resistance between the floor shifter 0518-01 pin 6, component side and the floor shifter 0518-01 pin 5, component side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms when the switch is in the ON position and greater than 10,000 ohms when the switch is in the OFF position?
Yes INSTALL a new PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
No INSTALL a new floor shifter. TEST the system for normal operation.
