Exhaust System Neutralizing Procedure
WARNING:
- Exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide, which is harmful to health and potentially lethal. Exhaust system leaks must be repaired immediately. Never operate the engine in an enclosed area. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
WARNING:
- Exhaust system components are hot. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
CAUTION:
- Make sure the system is warmed up to normal operating temperature, as thermal expansion can be the cause of a strain problem.
NOTE:
- Neutralize the exhaust system to relieve strain on mounts which may be sufficiently bound up to transmit vibration as if grounded.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. See LIFTING .
- Loosen all fasteners joining the exhaust system components.
- Beginning at the front of the vehicle, align the exhaust system to establish maximum clearance. Make sure all fit pipes are pushed all the way into the proceeding pipe and the notches are correctly lined up with the tabs.
- Beginning at the front of the vehicle, tighten all fasteners and clamps to specification. For additional information, see appropriate EXHAUST SYSTEM article.
- Start the engine and check the exhaust system for leaks.
- Perform a road test.
