Normal Operation: Notes

Under normal operation, the exterior mirror control switch uses circuit (L/G), (Y/V), (GY/O) or (V/O) to control mirror movement.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

SIGNAL MIRROR FUNCTION SWITCH LOGIC - PINPOINT TEST 3

PINPOINT TEST 3 A SINGLE MIRROR DOES NOT FUNCTION WITH SWITCH LOGIC
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK MIRROR MOVEMENT (LEFT/RIGHT)
  • Operate the LH and RH exterior rear view mirrors in the LEFT and RIGHT direction.
  • Do the exterior rear view mirrors move left and right?
Yes Go to next step.
No Go to step 3.
2 CHECK MIRROR MOVEMENT (UP/DOWN)
  • Operate the LH and RH exterior rear view mirrors in the UP and DOWN direction.
  • Do the exterior rear view mirrors move up and down?
Yes The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
No Go to step 4.
3 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE MIRROR
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Disconnect: Inoperative Rear View Mirror connector 0912-303 or 0912-302.
    NOTE:
    • Position the exterior mirror control switch to the LH or RH mirror position.
  • While operating the exterior mirror control switch in the left position, measure the voltage between ground and exterior mirror: Measure the voltage between inoperative exterior rear view mirror 0912-303 lain 1 (RH), circuit (L/G), or 0912-302 pin 1 (LH), circuit (Y/V), and ground while operating the exterior rear view mirror control switch.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes CHECK the LH or RH exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motor for open or shorted circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new exterior mirror. See EXTERIOR MIRROR . Otherwise, INSIALL a new exterior mirror motor. See EXTERIOR MIRROR MOTOR . TEST the system for normal operation.
No Go to step 5.
4 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE MIRROR
  • Disconnect: Inoperative Rear View Mirror connector 0912-303 or 0912-302.
    NOTE:
    • Position the exterior mirror control switch to the LH or RH mirror position.
  • While operating the exterior mirror control switch in the left position, measure the voltage between ground and exterior mirror: Measure the voltage between inoperative exterior mirror 0912-302 pin 3, circuit (GY/O), or 0912-303 pin 3, circuit (V/O), and ground while operating the exterior mirror control switch.
Otherwise, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. SeeEXTERIOR MIRROR MOTOR . TEST the system for normal operation.
No Go to step 6.
5 CHECK CIRCUIT (L/G) OR CIRCUIT (Y/V) FOR AN OPEN
  • Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch connector 0912-301.
    NOTE:
    • LH mirror only.
  • Measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch 0912-301 pin 8, circuit (Y/V) harness side and LH exterior mirror 0912-302 pin 1, circuit (Y/V) harness side.
    NOTE:
    • RH mirror only.
  • Measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch 0912-301 pin 7, circuit (L/G) harness side and LH exterior mirror 0912-302 pin 1, circuit (L/G) harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new exterior mirror control switch. See EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH . TEST the system for normal operation.
No REPAIR the circuit Test the system for normal operation.
6 CHECK CIRCUIT (GY/O) OR CIRCUIT (V/O) FOR AN OPEN
  • Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch connector 0912-301.
    NOTE:
    • LH mirror only.
  • Measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch 0912-301 pin 5, circuit (GY/O) harness side and LH exterior mirror 0912-302 pin 3, circuit (GY/O) harness side.
    NOTE:
    • RH mirror only.
  • Measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch 0912-301 pin 2, circuit (V/O) harness side and LH exterior mirror 0912-302 pin 3, circuit (V/O) harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new exterior mirror control switch. See EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH . TEST the system for normal operation:
No REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
