Normal Operation: Notes

Under normal operation, the exterior mirror control switch uses circuit (GY) as the common circuit for both exterior mirror up/down and right/left movement.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

MIRRORS INOPERATIVE - PINPOINT TEST 2

PINPOINT TEST 2 A SINGLE MIRROR IS INOPERATIVE
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE LH AND RH EXTERIOR MIRRORS
  • Operate the LH and RH exterior mirrors to the up, down, left and right positions.
  • Does the LH exterior mirror operate correctly?
Yes Go to next step.
No Go to step 4.
2 CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH
  • Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch connector 0912-301.
  • Carry out the Exterior Mirror Control Switch Component Test. See table at the end of this pinpoint test.
  • Did the exterior mirror control switch pass the component test?
Yes Go to next step.
No INSTALL a new exterior mirror control switch. See EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH . TEST the system for normal operation.
3 CHECK CIRCUIT (GY) FOR AN OPEN
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Disconnect: RH Exterior Mirror connector 0912-303.
  • Measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch, 0912-301 pin 6, (GY) harness side and RH exterior mirror, 0912-303, pin 2 (GY) harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes CHECK the RH exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motor for open circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new exterior mirror. See EXTERIOR MIRROR . If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. See EXTERIOR MIRROR COVER . TEST the system for normal operation.
No REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
4 CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH
  • Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch connector 0912-301.
  • Carry out the Exterior Mirror Control Switch Component Test. See table at the end of this pinpoint test.
  • Did the exterior mirror control switch pass the component test?
Yes Go to next step.
No INSTALL a new exterior mirror control switch. See EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH . TEST the system for normal operation.
5 CHECK CIRCUIT (GY) FOR AN OPEN
  • Disconnect: LH Exterior Mirror connector 0912-302.
  • Measure the resistance between exterior mirror control switch 0912-301 pin 6, circuit (GY), and LH exterior mirror 0912-302 pin 2, circuit (GY).
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes CHECK the LH exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motor for open circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins.
