Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

THREE-WAY CATALYTIC CONVERTER REMOVAL / INSTALLATION - 4.0L

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. See Lifting.

2. Disconnect the downstream oxygen connector.

3. Remove the downstream oxygen sensor. See Service and Repair.

4. Remove the muffler and tailpipe. See - Muffler And Tailpipe Removal / Installation.

5. Remove the nuts.
NOTE:The exhaust hanger bracket insulators can be reused if they show no signs of damage.

6. Remove the three-way catalytic converter and the exhaust outlet pipe frame brackets.

7. Install the exhaust inlet pipe gasket, the three-way catalytic converter and the exhaust outlet pipe frame brackets.

8. Install the nuts.
Tightening torque
40 Nm {4.1 kgf-m, 30 ft-lbf}

9. Install the muffler and tailpipe. See - Muffler And Tailpipe Removal / Installation.

10. Lower the vehicle.
