P07A5 - Direct clutch Transmission direct clutch stuck on. Ratio based test. The clutch control bypass valve (multiplex valve) exhausts the direct clutch when the valve is in the compressed position, where SSD points in the low/reverse position, the diagnostic can isolate the direct clutch stuck on from SSB stuck on because getting 3rd gear when 1st gear commanded, the clutch control bypass valve is in the spring compressed position indicates that SSB cannot be the cause.
  • Customer may notice slow acceleration from stop. May be in 3rd gear when 1st gear is commanded.
  • Once the DTC is stored, 3rd and 5th gears are only available.
  • Erratic shifting, harsh engagements, poor launch performance.
  • Will turn on wrench lamp.
See DIAGNOSIS BY SYMPTOM .
P07A8 Low/reverse clutch Transmission low/reverse clutch performance/stuck off. SSD is multiplexed through the clutch control bypass valve (multiplex valve) to the low/reverse and overdrive clutch, the diagnostic can isolate the low/reverse clutch failed off from SSD stuck off when the overdrive clutch applies normally and the low/reverse clutch did not.
  • Customer may notice no reverse.
  • Disable 1st gear.
  • Delayed engagement into drive.
  • Poor launch performance due to 2nd gear launch.
  • Will turn on wrench lamp.
See DIAGNOSIS BY SYMPTOM .
P07A9 P0767 Low/reverse clutch Transmission low/reverse clutch stuck on. SSD is multiplexed through the clutch control bypass valve (multiplex valve) to the low/reverse and overdrive clutch, the diagnostic can isolate the low/reverse stuck on by turning off SSE, If the transaxle shifts into 4th when the clutch control bypass valve moves SSD is stuck on, but if the transaxle stays in 1st then the low/reverse is stuck on.
  • Low/reverse clutch failed on.
  • One-Way Clutch (OWC) transmits torque in both directions.
  • Stuck in 1st gear.
  • Will turn on wrench lamp.
See DIAGNOSIS BY SYMPTOM .
P07AA - Overdrive clutch Transmission overdrive clutch performance/stuck off. SSD is multiplexed through the clutch control bypass valve (multiplex valve) between the low/reverse and overdrive clutch, the diagnostic can isolate the overdrive clutch failed off from SSD stuck off when the low/reverse clutch applies normally but the overdrive clutch is stuck off.
  • Overdrive clutch failed off.
  • Disable 4th, 5th and 6th gears.
  • Reverse may be delayed or disabled.
  • High engine rpm.
  • Will turn on wrench lamp.
See DIAGNOSIS BY SYMPTOM .
P0867 - Transmission hydraulic and clutch systems Transmission fluid pressure. The control valve test raises line pressure to insure that the clutch control bypass valve (multiplex valve) is latched, then turns on SSE to test for a stuck TCC control valve under steady state operation in 4th, 5th and 6th gear. If the ratio breaks away the test is aborted. If enough ratio break away occur, the DTC is set.

  • Line pressure issues.
  • Solenoid regulator valve issues.
  • Customer may notice flairs during test.
  • Will turn on wrench lamp.

P1636 - PCM Inductive signature chip communication error. Lost communication with solenoid driver.
  • The solenoid driver is an internal PCM chip that controls the solenoids. The main microchip communicates with the solenoid driver over a serial interface, sending out the desired solenoid state and receiving back a circuit fault status.
  • If communication is lost with the solenoid driver, the solenoid states become unknown, so the control system forces the transaxle solenoid power control relay off.
  • Transaxle solenoid power control relay turned off, providing PARK, REVERSE, NEUTRAL and 5th gear with TCC open and maximum line pressure.
  • Harsh engagements.
  • Poor performance launch (due to 5th gear drive away).

P072E P072E, P073A or P072E, P073A, P0757 Direct Clutch System Faults SSB failed on. The codes:
  • P072E stuck in 3rd gear.
  • P073A stuck in 5th gear.

These codes set together mean SSB is failed on, causing the direct clutch to be stuck on, 3rd and 5th gears are the only available gears.

Since the hydraulic controls prevent direct clutch and low/reverse clutch on together in the forward ranges we can isolate the solenoid from the clutch. These codes set if:

  • Non-electrical failures where SSB (direct clutch VFS) is stuck on (pressure).
  • Direct clutch regulator valve stuck in spring compress position.
  • Customer may notice a vehicle deceleration on a shift into 2nd, 4th or 6th gear (direct clutch failing to release will cause a tie-up in these gears).
  • Customer might notice a harsh 1-3 shift.
  • Customer might notice erratic shifting while the test is confirming direct clutch is failed on.
  • After a code is stored, ail gears but 3rd and 5th gears are disabled.
  • Since only 3rd and 5th gears are allowed, the customer might notice poor launch performance, lack of shifts and harsh engagements.
  • Will turn on wrench lamp.

Low/Reverse clutch and OWC faults (covers just the clutches) Transmission low/reverse clutch apply time range/performance. Low/reverse clutch stuck off with overdrive clutch stuck off. Most likely cause is SSD nonelectrical failure or low/reverse/overdrive regulator valve stuck in default position.
  • off is a ratio based test.
  • Low/reverse clutch is only tested for failed off in the low manual lever position.
  • The customer might notice no engine braking in 1st gear, and erratic shifting as the diagnostics isolates the fault to low/reverse clutch failed off.
  • Delayed or no reverse engagement.
  • Will turn on wrench lamp.
REPAIR the more specific DTC first. See DIAGNOSIS BY SYMPTOM .
P2704
P0766, P0767 and P2703
Overdrive clutch system faults Transmission overdrive clutch apply time range/performance. Overdrive clutch stuck off with low/reverse clutch stuck off. Most likely cause is SSD non-electrical failure or low/reverse/overdrive regulator valve stuck in default position. Overdrive clutch stuck on. Possibly overdrive clutch, SSD, low/reverse/overdrive regulator valve stuck in spring compressed position.
  • Overdrive clutch failed off.
  • Will turn on wrench lamp.
REPAIR the more specific DTC first. See DIAGNOSIS BY SYMPTOM .
P2705 - OWC failed Transmission OWC apply time range/performance.
  • The OWC holds in 1st gear. If the OWC fails off, 1st gear is failed to neutral.
  • 1st gear is disabled for this failure since low/reverse clutch is not intended to hold power on torque in 1st gear.
  • Customer might notice neutral conditions when 1st gear is commanded.
  • Erratic shifting as the diagnostic isolates the cause of the neutral condition to the OWC being failed.
  • Poor launch performance (due to 2nd gear drive away).
  • Harsh engagements.
  • Will turn on wrench lamp.
See DIAGNOSIS BY SYMPTOM .
P2760
P0743 and P0744
TCC solenoid TCC pressure control solenoid intermittent. Intermittent TCC solenoid short to ground. A short to ground will cause the TCC to apply, which can stall the engine at low vehicle speeds. The PCM will disable the high side driver until vehicle speed is high enough that the engine won't stall. With the high side driver off the fault can not be detected. If the fault goes away while the high side is off the vehicle will have a 5th gear launch with no DTC. If this occurs 3 times with no DTC P0742 being set, then DTC P2760 will set.
  • Poor launch performance (due to 5th gear drive away).
  • No TCC apply.
  • No shifts.
  • Will turn on wrench lamp.
REPAIR the more specific DTC first. See PINPOINT TEST 1: TRANSAXLE CONTROL SOLENOIDS .
P2783 - Torque converter Torque converter temperature too high.
  • TCC control valve stuck in the apply position. When the TCC is commanded open there will be no flow through the TCC (both apply and release circuits will be exhausted).
  • Test will run in 3rd gear or higher when valve 2 is in the latched position, pointing SSD at overdrive clutch when the TCC is commanded open. SSE is turned on, if the control valve is stuck, this will cause the TCC to apply even though the TCC solenoid is off.
  • Torque converter temperature too high.
  • Erratic shifts, vehicle disengages at a stop while in drive or low, early TCC apply.
  • Will turn on MIL.
See DIAGNOSIS BY SYMPTOM .
