A/C Unit Removal/Installation: Notes

  1. Set the air mix mode to MAX COLD.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Discharge the refrigerant. (See REFRIGERANT CHARGING .)
  4. Drain the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [MZR 2.5] .)
  5. Remove the bolt.

    CAUTION:
    • If moisture or foreign material enters the refrigeration cycle, cooling ability will be lowered and abnormal noise or other malfunction could occur. Always plug open fittings immediately after removing any refrigeration cycle parts.
  6. Disconnect from the A/C unit in the order indicated in the table.

  7. Remove the following parts:
    1. Windshield wiper arm and blade (See WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM AND BLADE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    2. Front fender molding (See COWL GRILLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    3. Cowl grille (See COWL GRILLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    4. Center cowl grille (See CENTER COWL GRILLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    5. Cowl panel (See COWL PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    6. Front doors (See FRONT DOOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    7. Sail garnish (See SAIL GARNISH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    8. Front scuff plate (See FRONT SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    9. Front side trim (See FRONT SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    10. Center console box (See CENTER CONSOLE BOX REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)

  8. Remove the A/C unit installation nut from the engine compartment, then remove the A/C unit.

    CAUTION:

  9. Remove the rear heat duct (1), (2). (See REAR HEAT DUCT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  10. Remove the heater case.

    • Remove the screws.
    • Pull up tab A in the direction shown by the arrow shown and remove it from the A/C unit.
    • Pull up tabs B in the direction shown by the arrow shown and remove it from the A/C unit.
  11. Disconnect the drain hose connected to the A/C unit. (See DRAIN HOSE INSTALLATION NOTE .)
  12. Remove the nuts and bolts for installing the dashboard to the body.
  13. Remove the dashboard with A/C unit. (See DASHBOARD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  14. Disconnect the following connectors:
    • Rear vent actuator connector

    • Airflow mode actuator connector

    • Air mix actuator connector

  15. Remove the nuts for installing the A/C unit to the dashboard.

  16. Remove the A/C unit from the dashboard.

  17. Install in the reverse order of removal. (See A/C UNIT INSTALLATION NOTE .)
  18. Inspect for engine coolant leakage. (See ENGINE COOLANT LEAKAGE INSPECTION [MZR 2.5] .)
  19. Perform the refrigerant system performance test. (See REFRIGERANT SYSTEM PERFORMANCE TEST .)
