Mirror Base Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2014 Mazda 6. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [SKYACTIV-G 2.5] .)
  2. Remove the following parts:
    1. Rearview mirror (without auto-dimming mirror) (See REARVIEW MIRROR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    2. Cover (with forward sensing camera) (See FORWARD SENSING CAMERA (FSC) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    3. Auto-dimming mirror (with auto-dimming mirror) (See AUTO-DIMMING MIRROR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  3. Wind each end of a wire around a bar.
    WARNING:
    • Using the piano wire with bare hands can cause injury. Always wear gloves when using the piano wire.
    NOTE:
    • Use a long sawing action to spread the work over the whole length of the piano wire to prevent it from breaking.

  4. Fix one end of the piano wire, and while pulling the other end, cut the sealant to remove the base.
