Control Cable Removal/Installation: Notes

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
  2. Perform the following procedure to remove the control cables (shift lever side).
    1. Side wall (See SIDE WALL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    2. Remove the shift lever knob.

    3. Shift panel (See SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    4. Front console box (See FRONT CONSOLE BOX REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    5. Rear console (See REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    6. Press the tabs on the control cables as shown in the figure and disconnect the control cables from the shift lever. (See Control Cables (Shift Lever Side) Installation Note .)

      CAUTION:
      • When disconnecting the control cable from the shift lever, do not press the control cable tabs with excessive force. Otherwise, they may be damaged.
    7. Disconnect the control cable end (shift side) from the shift lever as shown in the figure. (See Control Cables (Shift Lever Side) Installation Note .)

    8. Press down the safety lock in the direction shown in the figure.

    9. Push out the lock piece in the direction shown in the figure.
    10. Disconnect the control cable end (select side) from the shift lever. (See Control Cables (Shift Lever Side) Installation Note .)
  3. Perform the following procedure to remove the control cables (transaxle side).
    1. Remove the plug hole plate. (See PLUG HOLE PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    2. Remove the following parts as a single unit. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
      • Air cleaner cover
      • Air cleaner element
      • Fresh-air duct
      • Air cleaner case
      • Air hose
      • Resonance chamber
    3. Remove the battery. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.5 (WITHOUT CYLINDER DEACTIVATION)] .)
    4. Remove the PCM component. (See PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    5. Remove the battery tray. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.5 (WITHOUT CYLINDER DEACTIVATION)] .)
    6. Pull the lock pin in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and release the control cable ends (MTX side) lock.
      CAUTION:
      • Pull the lock pin within the range shown in the figure. If the lock pin is pulled excessively, it could deform and no longer function.

    7. Disconnect the control cable ends from the MTX. (See Control cable ends (transaxle side) installation note .)
    8. Press the clip tabs shown in the figure, and disconnect the control cables from the control cable bracket.

  4. Remove the fastening nut for the control cables.

  5. Remove the fastening nuts for the grommet.

  6. Remove the control cable.

  7. Install in the reverse order of removal.
