Control Cable Removal/Installation: Notes

- Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(US)] .)
- Perform the following procedure to remove the control cables (shift lever side).
- Remove the shift lever knob. (See SHIFT LEVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the shift panel. (See SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the front console box. (See FRONT CONSOLE BOX REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the cup holder. (See CUP HOLDER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the side wall. (See SIDE WALL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the rear console. (See REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(US)] .)
- Remove the rear console bracket No. 1. (See REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(US)] .)
- Press the tabs on the control cables as shown in the figure and disconnect the control cables from the shift lever. (See CONTROL CABLES (SHIFT LEVER SIDE) INSTALLATION NOTE .)CAUTION:
- When disconnecting the control cable from the shift lever, do not press the control cable tabs with excessive force. Otherwise, they may be damaged.
- Disconnect the control cable end (shift side) from the shift lever as shown in the figure. (See CONTROL CABLES (SHIFT LEVER SIDE) INSTALLATION NOTE .)
- Push out the lock piece in the direction shown in the figure.CAUTION:
- When pressing the lock piece out of the control cable end (select side), do not press out the lock piece with excessive force. Otherwise, it may be damaged.
- Disconnect the control cable end (select side) from the shift lever. (See CONTROL CABLES (SHIFT LEVER SIDE) INSTALLATION NOTE .)
- Perform the following procedure to remove the control cables (transaxle side).
- Remove the following parts as a single unit. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(VIN 7 & VIN L) (US)]

- Air cleaner cover
- Air cleaner element
- Fresh-air duct
- Air cleaner case
- Air hose
- Resonance chamber
- Remove the battery. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(VIN 7 & VIN L) (US)] .) (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(VIN M) (US)] .)
- Remove the battery tray and PCM component as a single unit. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(VIN 7 & VIN L) (US)] .) (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(VIN M) (US)] .)
- Pull the lock pin in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and release the control cable ends (manual transaxle side) lock.CAUTION:
- Pull the lock pin within the range shown in the figure. If the lock pin is pulled excessively, it could deform and no longer function.
- Disconnect the control cable ends from the manual transaxle. (See CONTROL CABLE ENDS (TRANSAXLE SIDE) INSTALLATION NOTE .)
- Press the tabs on the control cables and disconnect the control cables from the control cable bracket.
- Remove the following parts as a single unit. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(VIN 7 & VIN L) (US)]

- Remove the fastening nut for the control cables.
- Remove the fastening nuts for the grommet.
- Pull out the selector cable from inside the cabin and remove it.
- Install in the reverse order of removal.
