Steering Lock Unit Inspection: Notes

NOTE:
  • When removing the lower column cover, it is necessary to rotate the steering wheel.
  • If any door is opened/closed with the ignition switched OFF, the steering wheel will lock. Perform the procedure from Steps  13 so that the steering wheel will not be locked.
  1. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
  2. Open the front driver-side door.
  3. Switch the ignition off.
  4. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(US)] .)
  5. Remove the column cover. (See COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  6. Verify that the voltages of each of the terminals are as indicated in the terminal voltage table (reference).
    • If the voltage is not as specified in the terminal voltage table (reference), inspect the parts under Inspection item(s).
