Steering Gear And Linkage Removal/Installation: Notes
D-code
- 32280
WARNING:
- The temperature of the steering gear (EPS motor) is high just after turning the steering mechanism from lock to lock repeatedly, and it may cause severe burns. Before performing the work, verify that the steering gear has cooled down.
- Remove and install all parts when the engine is cold, otherwise they can cause severe burns or serious injury.
CAUTION:
- If the steering wheel rotates after the steering shaft and the steering gear are disconnected, the internal parts of the clock spring could be damaged. After disconnecting the steering shaft, secure the steering wheel using tape or cable to prevent it from rotating.
- The EPS will not operate normally if the EPS CM configuration is not completed. Always perform the EPS CM auto configuration after replacing the EPS CM so that the EPS will operate normally.
- If the steering column is dropped it could result in internal damage to the EPS CM, therefore be careful not to drop it. If the EPS CM receives an impact, replace it.
- If the steering gear and linkage are stored in a humid place, the EPS system may not operate properly when installed to the vehicle. Store the steering gear and linkage in a suitable place.
NOTE:
- The EPS CM stores the vehicle specification information.
- A new EPS CM does not store the vehicle specification information.
- When the main power is switched ON (READY off or on) after replacing the EPS CM, the EPS CM reads data from the instrument cluster via CAN communication to perform automatic configuration.
- To completely cut off the power supply to the EPS system, do not disconnect the battery within 60s after the main power is switched OFF.
- Do not replace the steering gear and linkage (EPS system) with that of another vehicle even if they are the same model.
- Before connecting the EPS CM connector, remove the fuse or disconnect the battery to interrupt the power supply completely.
