SERVICE INFORMATION

It has come to our attention that SRS Control Units (N2/2) are being replaced unnecessarily. Please be aware that selected SRS control units that are returned under warranty are being tested at MBAG.

In a number of cases the complaint could not be verified, and in others the control units had more than one fault code stored in memory.

Also, some of the returned control units had fault code 3 stored in memory. Fault code 3 refers to the Driver airbag electrical circuit. The diagnostic procedure does not call for replacing the control unit in this circumstance.

In all cases, after the fault code was erased, no failure could be found in the returned control units.

Please be reminded that the diagnostic procedures outlined in the Diagnostic Manual(s) must be followed thoroughly. If the complaint is of an intermittent nature, a supporting explanation must be entered in the text field of the warranty claim. This information will assist in testing of the returned parts.

Returned SRS control units with no fault found may be returned to the dealer and the dealership account debited.
