  ECT sensor (afterglow system) function The ECT sensor (afterglow system) (B11/8) measures the coolant temperature and supplies this data to the preglow time relay (N14) for regulating preheating and afterglow time, and to the engine coolant temperature gauge in the instrument cluster which then displays the coolant temperature  
  ECT sensor (afterglow system) function The two NTC resistors integrated in the ECT sensor (afterglow system) (B11/8) adjust their electrical resistance in line with the coolant temperature.
NTC means negative temperature coefficient, in other words the electrical resistance decreases and temperature increases
