Task

Preheating combustion chamber in order to achieve the necessary ignition temperature for fuel-air mixture.

Function

Turning on the glow/starter switch (S2/2 position 2) actuates the glow output stage (N14/2) and illuminates the preglow indicator lamp (A1e16) via the IFI [ERE] control module (N3/7) or the DFI [EVE] control module (N3/8). The preheating time is calculated by the IFI [ERE] control module (N3/7) or the DFI [EVE] control module (N3/8) in accordance with the coolant temperature. The glow output stage (N14/2) completes the circuit to the pencil-type glow plugs (R9).
