How To Read Diagnostic Information
Diagnostic information is located in IN-LINE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM TESTS. The far left column in testing format is a numerical step. For reading and understanding fault code diagnosis, as an example, using IN-LINE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM TESTS, start at step 1.0. Under TEST SCOPE column, component or circuit being tested is voltage supply (circuit 87). Under TEST CONNECTION column, using DVOM, measure voltage between socket box terminal No. 19 and socket box terminal No. 37, then between socket box terminal No. 18 and socket box terminal No. 55. Measurement is being made between In-Line Fuel Injection (IFI) control module connector terminals (harness side). Manufacturer recommends using Socket Box (129 589 00 21 00) for making measurements to prevent damage to electrical connectors and terminals. See Fig 1. Under TEST CONDITION column, make measurement with ignition on. Voltage is 11-14 volts for both measurements under NOMINAL VALUE column. If voltage is not within specification, follow instructions under POSSIBLE CAUSE/REMEDY column. Instructions are go to step 3, repair or replace wiring as necessary at passenger side fuse and relay module box (K40/4). Additionally, examine POSSIBLE CAUSE/REMEDY column for step 3. Instructions are to check and/or replace fuses as necessary, inspect or repair wiring and connectors as necessary, or repair passenger side fuse and relay module box (K40/4). Manufacturer identifies all system components with an alphanumeric identification in testing procedures (i.e., N3/7 is for IFI control module). See COMPONENT/CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION .
