When the "Open trunk lid" button is pressed, the transmitter key  sends a radio and infrared signal to the relevant receivers in the vehicle. These receive the signal and transmit its content in the form of a CAN message to the electronic ignition switch (EIS) control module (N73)  . The EIS verifies the access authorization code. If the test reveals that the code is valid, then the EIS sends a command to open the trunk lid over the CAN to the pneumatic system equipment (PSE), combination functions (A37)  . The PSE opens  the trunk lid pneumatically  , if the trunk lock  has not been locked through the lock cylinder being set to the 90° position.
