WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Mercedes-Benz E420, 1997 Mercedes-Benz E320, and 1997 Mercedes-Benz E300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
To prevent engine from overheating, A/C compressor will shut off in 2 stages:
- Stage 1 (Cycling) - At engine coolant temperature of 243°F (117°C), running time of compressor will be reduced by 50% cycling 20 seconds off and 20 seconds on. When coolant temperature falls below above the specified temperature range, compressor will resume normal operation.
- Stage 2 (Off) - At engine coolant temperature of 248°F (120°C), compressor is completely switched off. When coolant temperature drops to 243°F (117°C), compressor will run at Stage 1 cycle.
