SERVICE INFORMATION
When replacing an SRS control unit on MY 98 or MY 99 M-Class vehicles, there is currently a programming conflict when attempting to version code the control unit. The DTC code B1000 code may be set in the control unit after programming with the HHT. In order to avoid this possibility, the control unit must be programmed by MBUSI using production equipment. This will be in effect until a corrected HHT module can be released, which is expected to be in approximately 30 days. In the interim, please use the following procedure for ordering SRS control units on M-Class vehicles: Orders should be faxed to Parts Customer Services at 877-766-6262. Part no. 002 542 48 18 Please include the following vehicle information to ensure the control unit is properly programmed:
Full 17 digit VIN number
Model Year
BabySmart equipped (Y/N)
The control units will be programmed and drop shipped overnight from MBUSI to the MB Retailer. Upon receipt, the control unit should be installed and the vehicle started to ensure that the SRS light extinguishes. Following installation, the SRS system should be checked with the HHT and any DTC codes erased. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD THE CONTROL UNIT VERSION CODING BE ACCESSED WITH THE HHT UNTIL THE NEW HHT MODULE IS RELEASE. ACCESSING WILL CAUSE DTC B1000 TO BE SET AND RENDER THE CONTROL UNIT UNUSABLE.
