When the control edge of the pump plunger opens the feed and control bore, there is a drop in pressure in the pump barrel and the pressure valve spring (16/1) forces the pressure valve (16/3) onto its seat.
This seals the injection line from the pressure chamber in the pump barrel and relieves the pressure in the injection lines by means of the relief piston to achieve rapid closure of the nozzle needle.
