Tire Pressure Sensor: Notes
CAUTION:
The use of tire sealants is strictly prohibited for vehicles equipped with Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) system. Tire sealants can clog tire pressure sensors.
CAUTION:
Only use plastic valve caps, or there is a risk of corrosion.
CAUTION:
When reinstalling a previously removed tire pressure sensor to a wheel, replace grommet for tire pressure sensor.
NOTE:
Factory wheels are specially designed for installation of tire pressure sensors. DO NOT use non-genuine wheels, or it may not be possible to install tire pressure sensors.
NOTE:
DO NOT remove tire pressure sensor unless necessary. If the mounting screw or union nut of tire pressure sensor is visibly loose, replace all valve components of wheel electronics. If sensor is visibly damaged (especially white filter surface) or contaminated, tire sealant was used or sensor is more than 5 years old, install a new tire pressure sensor.
When replacing a wheel or tire, tire pressure sensors must be set up in one of the following ways. To identify tire pressure sensors, see TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR PART IDENTIFICATION table.
- Remove the sensor from the old wheel and install it to the new wheel.
- Keep the same wheel with tire pressure sensor, and replace only the tire.
- Use a new wheel and sensor.
