SERVICE INFORMATION
32/99-2 GROUP 82 - ALL MODEL YEAR 2000 PASSENGER VEHICLES (EXCEPT 170), TELEAID: The following outlines the correct procedures to be followed in the replacement of a Tele Aid transceiver (TRU) or Tele Aid control module (ECU).
PROCEDURE FOR TRU REPLACEMENT
- Remove Tele Aid fuse(s).
- Physically replace the TRU.
** DO NOT ALTER NAM OF NEW TRU **
- Replaced Tele Aid fuse(s).
- Obtain the ESN from the TRU. This is the eight-digit number located below the upper barcode and can be identified as being comprised of only characters 0-9 and A-F.
- Obtain MIN (optional); this may be obtained by connecting the Tele Aid test handset and pressing RCL followed by "#".
- Obtain VIN.
- Call the service center on a landline at the number indicated on the Tele Aid subscriber agreement.
- Advise the service center that you have changed the TRU and you need the new ESN/MIN pair activated.
- The service center will deactivate the original ESN/MIN pair and then activate the new ESN/MIN pair.
- Wait 20-30 minutes and place a test SOS call.
- Advise the service center that you are testing a TRU replacement and then request that they end the call.
If you experience problems with the activation of the new TRU (e.g. credit card message, roaming message, etc.), please contact your Regional Technical Specialist and they will submit a trouble ticket to the carrier to have the situation rectified.
PROCEDURE FOR ECU REPLACEMENT
- Remove Tele aid fuse(s).
- Physically replace the ECU.
- Replace Tele aid fuse(s).
- Using Star Diagnosis, version code the ECU with the appropriate SRS ECU part number.
- Place vehicle outside with key 'on' for 20-30 minutes in a location with good GPS reception (to initialize GPS receiver).
- Obtain VIN.
- Place SOS call.
- Advise the service center that you have changed ECU and are requesting a CID update for the VIN obtained in step 4.
- Request that service center update the VIN in the new ECU.
- Upon completion of the update, request service center to end the call.
- Using Star Diagnosis, verify that the new VIN has been stored in the ECU. If not, repeat steps 7, 9 and 10.
