Throttle Valve Actuator Recognition

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2002 Mercedes-Benz ML320, 2002 Mercedes-Benz E320, 2002 Mercedes-Benz CLK320, 2001 Mercedes-Benz ML320, and 2001 Mercedes-Benz E320. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The end stops (closed throttle) and Wide Open Throttle (WOT) are determined by the throttle valve actuator and stored by the ME-SFI control module. After replacing an ME-SFI control module or actuator, mechanical stop and WOT must be determined and recorded again. Current learned data must be erased using scan tool.

When a new ME-SFI control module is connected to vehicle for the first time, ME-SFI control module performs a self-adaptation of lower mechanical end stop when ignition is first turned on.

The following requirements must be present for ME-SFI control module to self-adapt to lower mechanical end stop:

When all conditions are met, turn ignition on for at least 60 seconds, then turn ignition off for at least 10 seconds. The learned value is stored in memory only after the first 10 start cycles. If battery voltage is disconnected after the 9th start cycle, the relearn process must be performed again.
