Switching on heated windshield and side windows (HWSS)
Function prerequisite: Engine running
When the defroster button in the AC pushbutton control unit (N22) is pressed once (the LED in the defroster button is illuminated), the HWSS output for predefined heating duration is switched on. The special vehicle multifunction control unit (SVMCU) (N26/9) receives this signal and actuates the heated window relay module control unit (N11/2). The heated window relay module control unit switches circuit 30 on for heated windshield and side windows. If the defroster button is activated while ignition c. 15 is "ON", the HWSS switches on only when the engine is started.
If a malfunction is recognized, the HWSS is switched off The error message "HWSS switched off due to error in HWSS module" appears in the instrument cluster (A1).The message is stored as an error in the DTC memory of the SVMCU.

The predefined heating duration depends on the speed (Signal from instrument cluster):

Function with undervoltage
In case of undervoltage (< 11.2 V), the message "MSS recognized undervoltage" appears and the HWSS output is switched off. If the voltage in the electrical system increases to above 12 V within t = 30 s, the heating phase continues. Otherwise, the entire function is switched off and the message "HWSS switched off due to undervoltage or after expiration of heating time" appears in the instrument cluster. The timer control continues to run during the undervoltage phase.
Switching off HWSS

When predefined heating duration has expired
Manually:
When the defroster button is pressed manually the heating function can be switched off; this also deactivates the defroster function.
After switch-off, the message "HWSS off" appears in the instrument cluster for 3 s
